I personally think it's not a very good descriptive name, unless the body of the original selection was a lot more yellow than most current plants. I do believe the 'aurea' refers to the plant leaf color. The specific epithet "fulviceps' is based on the Latin word fulvi, which means yellow-brown. The "ceps" part of the name means "head" referring to the body(leaves) of the plant. You should write and ask Y. Shimada what he meant, since he named it 'Aurea.' Hammer calls the color of the leaves of L. fulviceps 'Aurea' "insipid green." In any case, the flowers are charming and I enjoyed seeing them. Thanks. Good luck on the pollination. :)
Hm, yes, maybe they were more yellow at the start. And they do have golden veins running between the green dots that are quite distinctive. An I wouldn't call the green insipid, it's very vivid depending on the time of the year :)I've tried pollinating but not sure it worked. One of the flowers has already faded so now we can only want and see. I've been harvesting seeds from Aloinopsis, Neohenricia and Delosperma these days. It's hard work. No wonder growers like Francois Hoes have given up selling seeds (even though I don't see why not sell whole seed capsules). Now what to do with the crop....
Well, then, 'happy bee-ing!' I got my first Anacampseros (do you blieve that name will work?) yesterday, full with buds and 'bee-ing' won't be necessary... as they seem to be pretty selfpolinating and self-fertile.BTW, did you get seeds from your Avonia?Good luck!Art
Thanks Art! I've been diligently bee-ing but time can only tell whether there will be any results.Yes, your Anacampseros might develop seed pods. Not every flower but some of them which is more than enough ;) Good luck to you too!No, Avonias are not self-fertile as a rule even though exceptions happen. So no seeds there.
Just opened right now! This is stunning - in 15 minutes all happened (and of course I didn't attend)...Lovely colour they have. First pics at the blog already.... this can't be healthy!Art
Congratulations! :) Good thing they open in the evenings so that we can catch them even after work if we're lucky.
Поздравляю с цветением! Это всегда радость :)
Большое спасибо :) Ещё какая!Этот год у меня в плане цветения на удивление продуктивный. Может потому что в этом году настоящее жаркое лето у нас :)
