Rubroroseus babies (3 pics)

I'm taking back my previous rant about my L. bromfieldii v. glaudinae 'Rubroroseus' seedlings being neither rubro nor roseus. After the leaf change into first true leaves several of them now show a nice magenta color just like they should and I have nothing to complain.

  1. Did you really take the photos at 5:19 AM? Wow. I'm not even conscious at 5:19 AM.

Beautiful seedlings, quite roseus. Very healthy, very uniform. I'm very envious. How old are they? What was the seed source? I've already checked Mesa Garden and they don't offer Rubroroseus. Maybe I'll call Steven and complain. :) As usual, I'll just have to enjoy yours. Thanks for sharing them with us.

    1. I took and processed the photos this weekend ;)
      I just posted them at 5:19 AM~
I have to get up at 5 AM every morning nowadays..

Thank you! They grow very slowly but steadily.. and turn out all in all satisfactory. I sowed them in October 2012 and they've just changed into first true leaves. The seeds are from Francois Hoes (Belgium, http://users.skynet.be/fhoes/rsasucculents/ ), bought 2-3 years ago, back when he was still selling lithops seeds. He was a great source. Amazing collection, too --> http://users.skynet.be/fhoes/rsasucculents/lithops_plantlist.htm

Aah I'd love to order some seeds from MG again but this time of the year they probably sell 5 seeds per pack or less.. Will have to wait until the new seedlist is published :)

    2. Thanks for the info. I know Francois Hoes ( great web site) but I've never order seeds or plants from him. I use to visit his web site to see all the haworthias and haworthia hybrids he had. Did I tell you I have a really nice haworthia hybrid I bred? Maybe you can help me give it a name.

Often MG has more seed available then they list. I've often gotten seed that wasn't on the seed list. Sometimes it pays to contact Steven or Linda directly, which I might do concerning the L. rubroroseus cultivar seeds. I usually don't plant cultivars, but I really like those a lot. Of course the wonderful way you are growing them influences me, but maybe I can grow them that way too. After all, I have something you don't always have......lots of sun. :D

    3. Haworthias are something I'm keeping in mind for the time I win the lottery and buy a house with a garden and build a greenhouse :D There are some really amazing hybrids out there I can only admire through photos.
Thank you for the MG information. Next time I'm looking for something I'll try to ask them. Who knows. :) I'm currently looking for someone who could sell Muiria hortenseae seeds to me in pack with more than 4-5 seeds.
Oh, I think many of the non-cultivars are actually much prettier than cultivars (I have all of them in my seed box). With this bunch I kinda let myself be influenced by a trend...

      Yay to lots of sun!
