Avonia continues to flower

The flowers don't open all at once because they aren't all at the same stage of development. That's even better. This way you can enjoy the "flowering season" longer. Last night two more flowers opened and both had only 4 instead of 5 petals. I guess, if you're a tiny plant and you grew 10 big flowers you have to economize on something :)

  1. Ohh! I will be waiting when it will open all flowers at once :) Very beautiful plant!

    1. Unfortunately since the flowers are all in different stages they won't open all at once. You know, they only open once and then close forever :)

  2. What, only 4 petals! Tell you Avonia not to do that, it only confuses the botanist. You have certainly had a successful Avonia summer, and on a windowsill no less, and, with a minimal nutrient supply! Rika, you are upsetting the tenets of succulent cultivation. Well done!

    1. Haha, sorry, I didn't want to! :D
The plant only has two flowers to open now. Soon it can rest and reserve the strength for the caudex. Or not. Doesn't matter. :)
I'm also amazed that the minimal nutrient approach with pure pumice works so well. And not only for lithops or mesembs in general. I'll continue trying it out for other mesembs and report on the results.
