Aloinopsis schooneesii seedlings update

My A. schooneesii are now ca. 5 weeks old and they really do look like spheroid mesembs at this stage. It'll change with the next pairs of leaves. Even though it's awfully hot on the windowsill these days they don't even seem to notice. I try to keep the soil moist so that they can enjoy full sun.

  1. Hi Rika. Once again a great photo. Looks like I could reach out and touch them. They really look like tiny Lithops fulviceps except for the retention of the cotyledons. Hammer's new book has some wonderful photos of A. schooneesii plants in habitat. I look forward to watching your seedlings grow up, as unfortunately, I don't have any A. schooneesii.

    1. Thank you! I've just updated the entry above with another macro photo, taken from the side. You can see the some dots and coloring on it. These are really cute and strong babies. If only it could stay this way. *fingers crossed*
Oh this book haunts me. But it also motivates me to look for a job even harder :D

Hope you can find some room for your own A. schooneesii seedlings ;)

  2. Hi,
I tried to sow Aloinopsis schooneesii but after a month nothing is born. How long do they take to germinate? I put them into a plastig bag to ensure constant humidity, temperature at 28 Celsius

    greetings from Italy :)

    1. Hi :)

I tried sowing A. schooneesii and malherbei several times. Sometimes they don't germinate at all. You seem to do it correctly with the humidity but the temperature might be a little high. Keep trying!

For me, Mesembs always take a long time to germinate. I really can not tell... It can be from 3 days to 3 weeks under my conditions...
