A. rubrolineata and flowers

I've been complaining a lot about this plant to you over on twitter. Now it's time to show it.
This is the one Aloinopsis rubrolineata that is always trying to flower but never makes it. It grows a flower bud to a certain stage, then dries it and grows another one right away which then also drops. At the moment it has grown one flower bud to a considerable size and is growing another out of the top. No idea if it will be able to open at least one of them this time but if it does there will be a huge celebration. :)
I guess, if only the sun came out for a couple of days it would be enough...

  1. I love the buds on Aloinopsis and Titanopsis. Please see http://succulentsundae.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/titanopsis-calcarea.html

  2. Actually the plant itself looks like one big green flower. Perhaps it is the lack of sunshine. Although I have never read about mesemb flowers not opening due to lack of sun, I have noticed my lithops are sometime shy about opening their flowers when it's very cloudy. I can't remember if this also occurred with my Prepodesma (Aloinopsis) orpenii. Of course flowering during sunny weather is not a bad plant strategy since pollinating insects are more active during sunny days. Maybe you should get a sunlamp and see if that will coax the buds into opening. Anyway, it's a great looking plant flowers or not.

    1. I'm also not sure if sunshine would help. I takes this plant sooooo long. At the moment the bud jas grown so much it is a little bit open on the tip. But it still won't open properly! Maybe it's waiting for its pal titanopsis :D (I'll need to look up if they cross)

Thank you. I'm proud of this guy no matter what :)
