Breaking news!

This is going to be the event of the year among lithops! :D
Finally a plant I've grown from seed is going to flower! Such a miracle. I'm so looking forward to it. Just like I've been looking forward to it for 5 years.

None of the flowers you get from plants you bought is as precious as a flower on a plant you've grown yourself. :) One of the reasons - if not the main reason to sow.

  1. Congratulations, Rika! This is the real event for a plant enthusiast. My first was L. werneri C188. The next achievement is to grow the babies of the plants you've sowed yourself?

Yes, that would probably be the next goal, haha!

  2. This is so awesome! I'm living vicariously through you and your success. I've just recently learned about lithops and they're so fascinating yet terrifying.

    1. Thanks! Lithops are fun and you will kill much less of them if you start with seeds directly. It might take time but it's rewarding. Nothing to be terrified of.
Your blog is awesome btw ;)

  3. It's always a thrill to see that first seed grown plant reward YOU with its first flower. It's a real coming of age for a plant YOU brought into the world. I'm glad you are going to be able to celebrate it here with all of your friends. My first seed grown lithops to flower was also a L. pseudotruncatella. I'll see if I can find the photo and post it on my blog. Now, I don't even have a single pseudotruncatella. Once again, I'll just have to enjoy yours as it flowers. I sure am enjoying a lot of your plants! I've got to get to work growing a few more of my own. ;)

    1. Thank you. It's a milestone of sorts :)
I have 3 pseudotruncatella at the moment. The other 2 are also seedlings, but small (only 3 years old, haha). Looking forward to seeing the photo of your first flowering lithops kid. ;)

    1. True. Windowsill-growers have to have more faith in their lithops kids :) It happens for us, too!

  6. Congrats, Rika!
This is always a special event. My first seed grown Lithops flower bud showed itself a year ago yesterday. It was on a gracilidelineata (also five years old): http://plant-whisperer.blogspot.de/2012/08/first-self-grown-lithops-flower.html
The second one was a few weeks later on a fulviceps.

Yes, this is the main reason to grow Lithops from seeds! Enjoy your success, it means that your Lithops like to live with you! :)

    1. Thanks!
I guess what they say about lithops flowering at the age of 3 or even 2 are fairy tales. At the age of 2 they're waaay to small. At the age of 4 it's a "maybe" but up from 5 years you can start waiting :)
After all we're non-commercal growers and grow them with a minimum on food and conditions that don't promote fast growth.

Congratulations to you too (even if it's a year late). :) We must be doing something right!
