First Avonia flower opened today

I've been live-blogging the event on twitter today and here it is! Opened approx. at 5 PM and should stay open for a couple of hours. The sun is already gone from the windowsill but I tried to do my best with the photo.
Good thing you can usually tell in the morning if the flower bud will pop in the evening. This way you can make arrangements like cancel all your appointments. ;) Still, it's only one flower for now with seven more to come. Amazing for such a tiny plant to find so much strength for it.

  1. Very nice Rika. Not the easiest succulent to grow, especially under windowsill conditions. Must be quite a site in habitat when many plants are flowering. Beautiful close up photo. I'll make it my computer wallpaper! Thanks for sharing with all of us.

    1. I'm really proud of this plant, not only because of the flowers but also because it has grown so much since last year. My watering schedule is - squeeze the trunk and water if it lets you squeeze it. Very scientific :)
I haven't yet lost hope that the other one, A.q.ssp.alstonii, will develop flowers, too. Last year it had an additional flower as late as October!

      A couple of habitat pics:
