The end of an era

A bit dramatic but that's how it feels. :) I finally got my master's degree!
It's still difficult to believe there won't be any classes and papers anymore. I feel so relieved, but also a little bit empty and worried about the future. I guess I will feel truly relieved once I find a job. So if you need someone with a master's degree in Japanese and Slavonic Studies you know where to find me. ;)

My plants don't care much about what's going on in my life. This carefree Titanopsis is pushing new leaves and enjoying the rare sun light.

  1. Congratulations Rika!! When I read the title from my blog, I almost had a heart attack, thinking that it was the end of Lithops Stories...phew! Time for a celebratory drink I think. By the way, how many languages do you know?

    1. Thank you! :) Sorry the post title was a bit misleading. I wasn't writing much lately mainly because of all the work and stress around here. I'll try to post more from now on~
Uff with languages "knowing" is relative... :) German, English, Russian, Japanese. I can do with Bulgarian and Ukrainian on a passive level..

  2. Congratulations. Your Masters degrees are so exceptional, wonder why those two languages. I always love coming here and looking at your plants, although I am not always commenting. Your plants are not seen in our part of the world.

    1. Thank you Andrea! Really glad you read my blog :)
Yes, and it was fun to study, too. At the moment I'm really worried about finding a job though... That's no economics or something people actually want to hire someone for.
I wanted to study Japanese since high school (loved the musik) and took Slavonic "on the side" because Russian is sort of my mother tongue (even though my German is way better now, haha). So I've ended up studying two language-heavy disciplines.

  3. Well done Rika!

I hope you'll also consider becoming your own boss or doing freelance work. There's no guaranteed paycheck at the end of the month but the flexibility and freedom can be very rewarding.

Apparently Germany had the darkest winter for decades... hope the sun comes out soon :)

    1. Thanks!! :)
Freelance would be nice, doing translating work or teaching (I've been teaching Japanese at my university for the past 1,5 years) but you mostly need a start-up capital to go freelance. I don't have any money at all.

Yes I read about that, too. With studying and all I barely went outside so it kinda went past me. The plants are ok though. I'm still not watering (even though some have already regenerated) because I'm afraid of them starting to grow long at these "dark times". :)

  4. Congratulations!! I'm sure the future will work itself out and you'll do fine. For now, just sit back, savor the moment, and lift one on my behalf. Prost!

    1. Thank you Luther! :) I sure hope so! For that to happen I'll need to send out job applications in lange quantities as soon as possible.. But I'll try to relax a bit afterwards. Putting your mind at rest is something you have to learn, it doesn't come easy..

  6. Japanese and Slavonic studies! The kind of skills so rare they'll be highly prized by whoever needs them but that company/person/department may, I imagine, be initially hard to find. But many congratulations on completing what must have been a very challenging degree.

    1. Thank you very much. :) I do feel proud for completing it but am very pessimistic about it being highly prized on the job market. Surely hope someone is willing to give me a chance. :)
