Spheroid flowers (4 pics)

I was working overtime a lot lately thus missing all the flowers that were coming up. Not yesterday though!

The L. fulviceps flower opened pretty late and it was getting dark already. The photos have turned out kinda eerie but I liked them anyway. The petals are high-fiving the nearby D. sphalmantoides :)

There should have been another flower coming from the other head but it never developed. This happens a lot. The plants need to rationalize, I guess.

The C. ectypum is still not out of the sheets but is flowering a little. Cute flower of the color I rarely see on my windowsill.

This one,  C. angelicae, has a rare flower color too but flowers at night, it seems. I'll try to catch it tonight. I've removed the sheets myself from this one and badly damaged all the leaves (I was so careful!). People don't ever do that, it's a bad idea. Just let them do whatever they want and whenever they want it.

  1. The flower of C. angelicae seems really nice, I hope you'll get it opened !

I have a lithops hybrid that has both of its flowers ending now, and one flower coming out from a lesliei. But no more for now... it is always a surprise with lithops :D

    1. Hi Jimmy :)

I really don't know when exactly the C. angelicae fully opens its flowers.. Must be very late at night if ever. I tried taking pictures but they're not impressive haha :D

Several of mine have not developed the flowers fully even though there were flower buds... Happens every year. They grow to a certain point and then dry off. Only some of them open. Good luck with yours!

  2. I take plants to work so I do not miss the flowers. Not so good now I have moved offices as I only have a sunny window in the morning.

    1. At least you have a sunny window there. Unfortunately I don't. It's an open space office and I'm somewhere in the middle of the building.

  3. Wonderful whites! I was expecting some flowers this year too, but it seems I'll have to wait one more. But I got a few L. werneri at our local DIY-store chain. Imagine! Crazy Lithops world that is!

    1. Oh! Nice find! Congratulations :)

Luckily, lithops are beautiful without flowers ;) I don't get much of it here either.

  4. You can usually depend on Lithops fulviceps, such a reliable lithops. For me fulviceps and bromfieldii are two of the easiest lithops to grow and flower. Long ago I heard L. salicola was very easy but I've had my issues with it and only have a few plants remaining. Of course L. lesliei is relatively easy, especially from seed, and is just a beautiful species.

You do have a Conophytum angelicae ssp tetragonum and it looks good. To me C. angelicae spp tetragonum looks like it is made out of wax, and sometimes looks like the wax is melting. Quite attractive in a weird way. C. ectypum has that made out of wax look too. You have some very interesting conos in your collection, which is becoming very nice. Your blog is sort of a catalogue of your collection of plants. I really do enjoy reading through the older entries in your blog. They are interesting and inspirational. :)

    1. Usually yes.. This year my bromfieldii have not flowered at all and fulviceps have dropped several flowers (it's gotten cold and dark very early and suddenly this year). But I got a karasmontana to flower. And two dorotheaes. The slight shift in the windows direction seems to trigger other lithops' flowering. We'll know more next year :)

Lesliei never flower for me XD

Thank you! I was paying attention to get interesting looking conos, meaning conos that really differ from one another. Thank you so much for reading the blog, especially the older entries. I look through them too to see how my plants have grown or how they looked like before. Or even to find out whether they were at the same point in their yearly cycle same time last year. It helps to understand them better. Also, I sometimes forget their names and have to look up in the blog.... really need to take better notes...
