This year's Lithops portraits: Ventergreens (3 pics)

I was really happy the Ventergreens have regenerated safely. I bought these plants from Yasuhiko Shimada back when I was living and studying in Japan and they were pretty expensive. I just had to have them. The color is amazing! Also, how come this Japanese cultivar isn't called "matcha"?! I think the green tee powder describes the light-green color perfectly.

  3. Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! Now I´m quite confident it´s L. lesliei v. venteri "Ventergreen" what I´ve got as L. lesliei 'luteoviridis'! And the so labelled L. lesliei 'Pietersburg form' seems to be the 'Luteoviridis'! Damn...you´re lost when someone who sends you plants mixes up the labels.... B-<

Lovely green by the way! *thumb up*

    1. Ventergreen seeds are extremely rare. Noone would send you Ventergreen instead of luteoviridis ;)
Also, keep in mind that lithops are almost never uniform when grown from seed and most of the seedlings will show a variety of color shades and patterns. It doesn't make them "wrong" or wrongly labeled. If you look up how lithops should look like at lithops.info, it's rather incorrect because it only shows one plant as an example. The sown seedlings might look very different from that.

    2. Erm, my specimen is an adult plant from a Belgian grower (Willy G.). (Never got seed of 'Ventergreen'.) I guess he has accidentally mixed up a few labels while packing a couple of years ago. But according to other pics of Lesliei 'luteoviridis' the plant is not that green like my plant. Could be possible it´s a 'Ventergreen'! Willy also sent me one nice lil L. amicorum! B-D *hihi* So, he is not really miserly with rarities. :o) (Just too bad I´ve managed to kill most of them....waaaahhhhhhh!!!!)

      Kindest regards
