I read in my book on Adromischus that sometimes the mother leaf bloats up like this and can then be used again. It is a mini orchid that LOVES being watered(actually can't overwater it) and doesn't fuss about light levels. It also has really weird leaves with ruffles. I have one and it blooms constantly.
